The bidding process opened with the foreign players, while local players bidding held in the second phase of the auction.Australian famous auctioneer Cyrus Madani conducted the BPL players’ auction ceremony like the previous season. Mahbub Anam, member of the ad-hoc committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), acted as the auction commissioner. Along with that, chairman of the seven-franchised teams was also present.

A total of 134 foreign players from 13 countries have registered their names for the first day bidding. Though franchises will have opportunity to sign players after the BPL auction as replacement of contracted players who are not available to play due to injuries or national commitments. Under BPL rules, the replacements have to be chosen from the pool of players who went unsold in the auction today and cannot be paid more than the players they are replacing, though they can be paid less.

Unlike the first season there will be no icon players and the players taken part in the player’s auction were divided into four categories. Channel 9 Bangladesh TV telecasted the auction programme live from the venue as the official channel for the BPL 2013.

Pakistani cricketer Imran Nazir topped the golden category for foreign players when he was picked up by the Chittagong Kings for US $2,80,000. That made him the second highest in payment for BPL T20 season 2.

Shakib’s price shot past the maximum bar of US $70,000 set for the local golden-category cricketers as the franchises bid hard to have him in their tents.

Dhaka Gladiators bought Shahid Afridi for US $2,75,000.

Sylhet Royals had Bangladesh’s incumbent Captain Mushfiqur Rahim for US $2,05,000, while Duronto Rajshahi paid US $1,65,000 for Tamim Iqbal. Vice Captain Mahmududllah Riad fetched US $1,25,000 from the Chittagong Kings.
