BANGLADESH V WEST INDIES – 4TH ODI – DARREN SAMMY’S UNBEATEN 60 HELPS WINDIES POST A RESPECTABLE 211 FOR 9

West Indies skipper Darren Sammy played a superb knock of 60 not out in the closing stages of their poor innings to help the tourists post a respectable total of 211 for nine from their stipulated 50 overs in the fourth One Day International of the five-match series against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka today.

After struggling at 79 for 5 with all the big guns – Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Kieron Pollard – back in the dugout, it was Sammy's display of nerves in the innings' final stages (5 fours and 2 sixes in 62 balls) which gave them a defendable total.

The West Indies top order was exposed against the spin yet again, with hard hitting opener Chris Gayle falling for just 16, in the sixth over. The talismanic left-hander was followed by last match’s centurion Marlon Samuels (27), Dwayne Smith (0), Kieran Powell (26) and Kieron Pollard (2), the latter four all within eight runs of each other, as the tourists slumped from 71 for 1 to 79 for 8.

Besides Sammy, Darren Sammy was the only other West Indies batsman to counter the Bangladesh spin attack, scoring a meticulous 34 off 61 balls, before being caught and bowled by rookie Sohag Gazi.

Mahmudullah was the leading Bangladesh wicket-taker returning with figures of 3 for 46, while Abdur Razzaq and Elias Sunny took one wicket apiece.

Earlier, the Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and put the tourists into bat, keeping in view the role of dew later in the evening. The hosts made one change to their squad from the four-wicket defeat in the third ODI, bringing in left-arm spinner Elias Sunny for fast bowler Rubel Hossain.

West Indies also made a forced change to their winning combination from Wednesday’s match, bringing in fast bowler Kemar Roach for Ravi Rampaul, who is nursing a niggle.
