Live Updates: New Zealand vs England, 1st Test (Day 2)

New Zealand v England 2012-13
Live updates from day two of the first Test between New Zealand and England played at University Oval, Dunedin.

England, 1st innings:

End of over 50: 143 for 8 New Zealand at this stage would not want the England tail to wag, but James Anderson and Steven Finn are showing some application at the middle which their top-order failed to
do.End of over 43: 119 for 8 Martin picks up another wicket and this time his third. Stuart Broad pulls a half tracker from Martin straight to deep square leg. England are throwing it away.

End of over 41: 114 for 7 Martin is having a great start to his Test career. This time it's Trott (45) trying to go for the sweep and getting a top edge to short fine leg. This time also a poor selection of shot from Trott which resulted in his dismissal.

End of over 39: 108 for 6 The debutant left-arm spinner, Bruce Martin gets his first Test wicket by getting rid of Matt Prior. The ball was short of length and Prior rocked back for the cut shot, but played straight into the hands of the point fielder. Again poor shot selection from the England batters.

End of over 38: 107 for 5 Matt Prior is not bogged down by the situation and is playing his natural game. Trent Boult gets punished for bowling a poor line as Prior slams three back-to-back boundaries to bring up England's 100.

End of over 32: 81 for 5 (Lunch) The morning session completely belonged to New Zealand, especially Neil Wagner with three wickets. Trott (40) and Prior (1) were unbeaten at the crease at the end of the session.

End of over 28: 71 for 5 The bowling changes has gone Brendon McCullum's way this morning. Trent Boult bangs it short and Joe Root poked it to third slip where Brownlie took an easy catch. What a morning session it has been for New Zealand after a lost day one due to rain.

End of over 25: 68 for 4 Neil Wagner picked up his third wicket by removing Ian Bell for 24. Wagner changed angle by coming round the wicket and Bell played a uppish drive to a pitched up delivery to short cover in place where Rutherford completed a juggling catch.

End of over 20: 43 for 3 Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell built on a decent partnership after the quick wickets. As expected there has been no exaggerated swing off the pitch. Trott and Bell now seem to have settled down to the pace and bounce of the track.

End of over 11: 19 for 3 Neil Wagner comes first change and immediately gets into action by picking up Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen off successive balls. Cook flashed hard at a wide short delivery but played straight to the point fielder. The next ball, Wagner got the ball shape in and that was enough to trap Pietersen in front of the stumps.

End of over 3: 5 for 1 New Zealand make the most out of the conditions as Tim Southee gets the wicket of opener Nick Compton (0) early. Compton was late to a full pitched delivery and gets played on.
Day 1: The day one of the first Test was washed out due to rain without a single ball being bowled. New Zealand had won the toss and opted to bowl considering the conditions at Dunedin.

However, the big news was of Graeme Swann missing out the whole tour due to an elbow injury which gave Monty Panesar a chance to start in the Test series.
