High flying Melbourne Renegades have won the toss and their skipper, Aaron Finch, said that his team will field first against Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League clash, being played at the Docklands Stadium, Melbourne.
The Renegades remain the inform team of the current second edition after registering two straightforward wins in their opening matches. Their victories have been come a result of collective team effort, where bowlers and batters have chipped equally.
Finch, who scored a breathtaking ton in the opening game against rivals Stars, has kept the same tempo by inserting the opposition as he did in the previous game against Sydney Thunder, further retaining the same playing XI.
On the bowling front, they will again be relying on their seasoned campaigner Muttiah Muralitharan to provide the goods, following the spinner’s impressive effort last time around. Finch had earlier added that they may hand the new ball to Murali to unsettle Hurricanes’ opening batsman, Ricky Ponting.
“I think at the moment you’d have to say yes (they’re the best in the competition),” he said.
“I think the advantage of Murali is that he brings that mystery factor with him so teams probably have to sit back and have a look at him more, which allows us to try and sneak through a couple of quick overs from him.”
As for Hurricanes, they will be aiming to bounce back after suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of Stars. Ponting’s experience in terms of facing spin will be seen as key. Punter will be further aiming to improve on his previous outing, where he managed just 8 with the bat.
Team’s premier pacer, Doug Bollinger, said that he will be eyeing the scalp of Finch, the leading run scorer of the current edition. "He's the key player for their team and, if we can nip him off early, fantastic, but it's going to be hard work.
