South Africa v Pakistan 2012-13
Kyle Abbott, Test cricket's latest pace-bowling sensation, has been added to South Africa's ODI squad as cover for the injured Morne Morkel. Abbott became his country's second-most successful bowling debutant
with figures of 7 for 29 in Pakistan's first innings at Centurion last week and finds himself fast-tracked into the 50-over squad for the upcoming five-game series against Pakistan starting March 10 at Bloemfontein.
"Morne Morkel's recovery from his hamstring injury is still a work in progress and we consider it prudent to provide extra depth to our fast bowling resources," said Cricket South Africa selection convener Andrew Hudson,
Abbott, 25, has a List A record of 59 wickets in 44 matches an at average of 27.47 and economy rate of 5.32. He is one of six fast bowlers named in a 15-man squad which comprises two left-arm spinners in Robin Peterson and Aaron Phangiso.
The squad was largely the same as that which lost to New Zealand earlier this year, with batsman Dean Elgar and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock dropped.
