England lose to New Zealand XI in warm-up

Stuart Broad took three wickets to lead a determined fightback before England lost off the last ball to a New Zealand XI in the last warm-up match ahead of their Twenty20 series against New Zealand.

Tailender Matt Henry hit a four when one run was needed from the final ball to lift the New Zealand XI to a three-wicket win. But England captain Broad had done everything he could to keep his team in the match as it defended a moderate total of 170 for 5.

Joss Butler and Eion Morgan both scored 51, putting on 87 in 8.2 overs, as England rallied from 71 for 4 to post a defensible total.Broad then kept his team in the game, claiming 3 for 24 and taking a diving catch to force the match into the last over after the New Zealand XI was coasting to victory at 123 for 3.
Tom Latham top-scored for the home side with 64 from 38 balls. England beat the New Zealand XI by 46 runs in their first meeting on Tuesday, in which Butler made 57 not out and Broad completed a hat-trick.
The first of three Twenty20 internationals between New Zealand and England will be played in Auckland on Saturday.
